Everyone that uses coupons needs an efficient method of organizing them. For a couponer, there is nothing worse than knowing you have a coupon for an item; but you can not find it. While there are several ways of organizing them, perhaps one of the best ways is to use a ring binder since it offers a great deal of flexibility. As your collection grows, then additional pages can easily be added or removed when not needed. It can work equally well for someone who is new to collecting as well as the extreme couponer.
How to create a coupon binder
You can start with a smaller binder and work your way up. As a full-time, crazy couponer I have a three-inch binder. I opted for a hard plastic binder that I thought would hold up to a lot of wear and tear. I bought the binder at Office Max, using coupons from my MaxPerks account. Use baseball card pages check Amazon: You can also use photo pages and or sheet protectors. Get a few sets of strong plastic dividers. The paper ones will rip in no time. I have separated my coupon book into categories, based on the layout of the store.
You can break it into whatever categories work best for you. Then you clip your coupons and insert them into the categories! You will need to fold most coupons before putting them into the little pockets. I try to always leave the expiration date visible so I can easily pull them out when they are expired. Go through your binder at the beginning of each month to pull the expired coupons. I like this method because I have it in a big bag and flip through it without taking it out in the store kind of like a little filing cabinet.
I carry this bag, my purse and usually my toddler, into the store. I always recommend a name and phone number written with a permanent marker on your coupon binder. There is no right way, just your way. The easiest it is for you to maintain and use, the more likely you will be to use it and save money! Clip your coupons. You can find these online or in newspapers. As you clip, remove expired coupons and place coupons expiring first at the front. Create your meal plan based on coupons or items in your pantry expiring first, or just based on what you want to eat. Create your shopping list — pull out coupons that you want to use now…. The couponers who are the most organized tend to save the most money. Well, there are a few methods and it really depends on personal preference. Some couponers like to leave coupon inserts intact, file them by date, and clip them as needed. Others clip all their coupons and store them in a box like a photo box alphabetically either by product type or by brand name. My preferred method has evolved over the years, moving from one strategy to another. I currently prefer to clip all of my coupons and file them in a binder using baseball card insert pages.
